"the benchmarket"

A Global leader in Express, Mail and Logistics required the ultimate benchmarking exercise as part of their annual senior managers' meeting. Solution: The BenchMarket. Starting with an empty hall, Senior Managers got their hands dirty constructing this entire exhibition from scratch in less than 5 hours. The exercise was designed to really get managers thinking about the mindset of their opposition, so each exhibition stand had to represent a major competitor.

Delegates faced a double challenge. Firstly to research, discuss and reach a consensus on their benchmarking strategy. Secondly (a complete surprise) to make their ideas come to life by constructing and staffing their own team exhibition stand by the deadline. When construction began, teams had to manage their limited budgets carefully - haggling for the best position, information and expertise. Everything (and we do mean everything) had to be purchased and built - electrics, flooring, walls, decorating, lighting, AV, promotional materials and art work.

With the clock ticking, volunteers were whisked across the City to record a musical jingle and shoot a video to accompany each team display. On hand were top professional session singers, engineers and video makers.

Time was up. The job was done. Or was it? Hang on, where were the visitors? Just in the nick of time, a host of Business Studies Undergraduates (specially invited from the City's universities) swarmed into the hall to inspect and score the exhibition stands.

Result: A fantastic success which is still talked about today. The quality, creativity and business relevance of this event became the benchmark for all future company meetings.
